Keep Insects at Bay with These Oils

For many people, summer is easily the best season of the year. From sunshine and warm weather to beach vacations and backyard barbecues, there’s much to love about the summer season. However, it’s not without its drawbacks – particularly bugs. Thanks to the humidity and heat, you can always expect gnats, mosquitos, horseflies, and more to show up uninvited to all your outdoor activities. If you’re hosting a corporate event or one where it’s essential to make a good impression, then you want to pay attention to detail – and that means making sure that bugs aren’t a part of the festivities. Fortunately, spraying yourself with scary chemicals isn’t your only option for keeping these pests at bay. Instead, handle the problem naturally with essential oils and make a good impression on your guests. Here are some oils you can diffuse the next time insects are crashing the party.

Peppermint

Not only does peppermint smell amazing, but it also repels pests naturally, including ants, mosquitos, fleas, flies, spiders, and even mice. Because it smells so lovely, peppermint is easy to use in your diffuser at any gathering. Choose peppermint alone or a blend that contains peppermint, such as our Breathe Easy, a relaxing and refreshing combination of eucalyptus, peppermint, spearmint, and anise.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus is native to Australia and the primary food source of koalas. It offers both nutrition for wildlife and medicinal properties; you may have noticed it as an ingredient in sore throat sprays, chest rubs, and cough syrups. However, it also has a hidden quality: it repels insects. Eucalyptus has a strong aroma that’s unfamiliar to most bugs, and so they perceive it as being dangerous. It can also kill some insects on contact such as mites, earwigs, and aphids. An essential oil blend containing eucalyptus will work wonders to keep pests away. Try our Lavender Linen for a fresh, springy blend of eucalyptus, bergamot, lavender, green tea leaves, and a touch of patchouli.

Lavender

People often associate the scent of lavender with relaxation and calm; it’s often used in soaps and other personal care items. However, you might be surprised to learn that it’s also effective at battling bugs. In fact, people have used lavender essential oil for centuries as an insect repellant. AromaTech offers lavender in several of our aroma oils such as Serenity, a tranquil blend of lavender, chamomile, sandalwood, and valerian root. Try this at your next event to help your guests feel relaxed and happy – and free of bugs.

Geranium

The active ingredient in geranium essential oil is geraniol, which has been shown to repel a wide range of bugs including mosquitoes, ants, flies, cockroaches, gnats, ticks, and fleas. One of our best sellers is Oriental Rain, an irresistible blend of geranium, water lily, and ylang-ylang with rejuvenating notes of clean oak moss, juicy plum, and sparkling orange. Not only will this blend delight your guests or employees, but it will also send insects running for cover.

Insects certainly have their purpose in the world, but they can be very annoying when you’re trying to enjoy the great outdoors by getting into food, carrying diseases, and being generally irritating. Get rid of bugs the safe, natural way with AromaTech’s essential and aroma oils and one of our high-quality diffusers. Your employees and guests will thank you!
